Knowing you are safe in our hands

Osteopathy is an established system of diagnosis and treatment recognised by the British Medical Association as a discrete clinical discipline. All Osteopaths have medical-malpractice insurance and follow a strict code of conduct. Patients have the same safeguards as when they consult a doctor or dentist. All Osteopaths have to be legally registered with the General Osteopathic Council in order to use the name osteopath.

The Osteopath needs to complete the minimum of a full time 4-year degree, similar to the syllabus followed in medicine.

In order for Osteopaths to practice, they must demonstrate they are:

  • Of good of character and health
  • Have no previous or current convictions for criminal offence
  • Able to provide evidence of having practiced osteopathy safely, lawfully and competently.
  • Able to provide annual evidence of continuing professional development.

Members of the public can obtain up-to-date details of an Osteopath’s registration, general information or details of a complaints procedure by contacting the Osteopathic information service on 0207 3567 6655.

Osteopaths are always happy to explain the nature of any treatment proposed or given. If you have any worries or concerns, please talk them through with him or her in the first instance.

"The session with the Osteopath, Annie Khenian, was amazing. By lightly touching my body, she picked up every area that had ever given me pain, and gave me an eerily accurate assessment of my main personality traits, working life and exercise habits. It was like she had Xray hands."
