Preparing for treatment
Below are a few guidelines which will help you to get the most out of your acupuncture treatment:
- It is advisable not to come for acupuncture treatment on an empty stomach so please factor this in if coming for a late morning or late afternoon treatment. Similarly it is best not to have acupuncture directly after a large meal.
- It is helpful if minimal amounts of make-up and perfume are worn, particularly for the initial consultation. Observation of subtle changes in odour and skin colour during treatment can provide diagnostically significant information.
- Please drink plenty of water in the 24 hours after acupuncture treatment and take as much rest as possible.
- It is advisable that intake of alcohol in the 24 hours after acupuncture treatment is minimal.
- It is particularly important that you do not consume alcohol before a acupuncture treatment as it may not only interfere with treatment but also affects the pulse severely limiting the quality of treatment that can be given.
- Finally, although there are points all over the body the most commonly used are on the limbs below the elbow and below the knee. For this reason it is helpful if tights are not worn and clothing is loose enough to be rolled up to the elbow or knee.

"I would recommend anyone thinking of trying acupuncture, especially for sports injuries, to see Charles. His technique is very thorough and he explains both the treatment programme and what each needle is going to help with, which means that you always feel comfortable with each step. "
